A big few days

I'm starting far too late for this to resemble a big year but I did manage to at least photograph some species on my recent trip to Zimbabwe and Zambia.

and just to make my tally look a bit more respectable I'll include some of the birds I saw in Australia earlier in the year. It was a surprisingly disappointing trip in terms of birds seen,, but here they are

I really like your gull(s) on beach(es) shots.

The contrast brings out the gulls' beauty.

Thanks for posting these!

Apparently, if you see a bird on top of a dead palm, it is highly likely to be a Dickinson's Kestrel. It's a favourite nesting site.

I added in a thumbnail of the full frame so you can see how much I had to zoom in order to actually see the bird properly. hence the poor quality.

You post superb shot after superb shot.

How to single out any one without slighting the others.

I'm writing more in my trip report tonight, but enjoying your images.

Really appreciate your sharing them.

I shot these from a small boat on the Kafue River while staying at Kaingu Lodge.

The shots were hand held using a 300mm f4 lens with a 1.4x tc attached - hence the 420mm focal length.

Here's the info straight from the camera.

Pearl spotted owlet - Glaucidium perlatum

The wee thing was only a small blob in the middle of the screen so I've had to crop loads off - this is probably about 20% of the original frame so excuse the quality.

Not the best photo I've taken of one - horrible background - but it is from my 'big few days'

I think I've pretty much covered the birds I was able to photograph in Hwange and so now I've moved across the border into Zambia's Kafue NP.

I was very impressed with Kafue as a birding destination. (Just to warn you, some of these photos will make another appearance in my Kafue TR)

on the contrary, a blown out background as a backdrop of such a sharp and colourful subject is fitting.

But i suspect you knew that already!
