This was a mixed flock of birds that flew quite quickly. I confess I didn't know they were Twite until I looked at the photos when we got home!

The American Wigeon is a rare visitor to the UK - it doesn't even make it into the rarities section of our bird book. So it was a treat to see it.

Lovely shots, the Tree creeper is a bogey bird for me, even see them in the garden now and again but getting a photo is a different matter!

Scotland takes some beating.

Great selection of birds from Scotland, @@TonyQ ! By the time we will go there (August) most will probably be gone, but the fury one will be around, I believe :) .

@@TonyQ - you have got it all - great photos, rare birds, new birds (I've never heard of a twite) and some old favourites I haven't seen in a long time (I haven't seen a treecreper in at least 10 years)

Thank you. I always find Treecreepers difficult also. They tend to move quickly and do it in the shade!

I put the second male in as it shows the colour at the front of its chest.This is a spectacular bird. Last year I only saw males at a distance, so it was great to see them much closer this year.

We dont see many of these in our area of the country because of changes to farming methods. It was a real pleasure to here numbers of them singing on either side of the track we were walking on.

 

Periodically, one would shoot up in the air, hover and sing very loudly.

A fairly rare visitor to the UK. It was hanging about with the Tufted Ducks (the relatives). We met a man who lived near the pool - he said it had been there all winter, and indeed had spent the previous winter there (but disappeared during the summer)

We saw lots of pheasants in Scotland, but I couldn't get a decent picture of a male, so this on is from England a few weeks later.

I really like watching Dunlin - pretty little birds.

 

That is probably all from this trip to Scotland. (I do have one or two really bad photos of birds we may see elsewhere - but I may dig them out on December 31st :) )
