#18 Eurasian Hoopoe (Upupa epops)

I had always assumed that the Hoopoe we see in the UK is the same as the Hoopoe we see in Africa, but according to my HELMS guide to birds of the Middle East, they have different Latin names as well.

I cannot easily spot the difference but as they are listed as 2 different birds I will post photos of each one.

The main difference is that the African has a larger patch of white on the wing when flying but it still can be seen when at rest as a 'patch' rather than a stripe.

Nice collection to add to your list.

Dubai offered you a nice selection of Bulbuls, @Soukous. The White-eared looks specially nice.

Many thanks @Galana I'm pleased that they are at least different.

#27 Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes)

Cape Town, Feb 2018.

Now you're probably wondering what an Australian bird is doing in Cape Town. It is in a friend's garden. She used to breed some exotic birds and now there are a few still remaining that inhabit her garden.

All the birds posted from now on, dated Feb 2018, were photographed either at or close to my house in South Africa.  There were many more that I didn't manage to capture on 'film'.
