Chile's best!

jeremie

"As some of you know, I am a Frenchman living in Chile, South America, since 2012."  No, I did not know that, but I always knew you were very adventurous and visited remote and fascinating locations.  This report is no exception--remote and fascinating.  Those pumas are truly amazing.  And thanks for taking me to Instagram via this report.

Your photos are compelling works of art--the scenery, the rabbit, the foxes, everything. Holy puma!

Late to see this, but better late than never @jeremie!  Your photos are gorgeous!!! I was blown away by the closeups of the pumas, the sceneries and everything else in between!  Bucket list photos for sure!  And some of the best I have ever seen of the pumas!

I am absolutely itching to go, Torres del Paine has been on the top of my bucket list for years and years.  Trying to make plans for 2021 ... how far in advance should I think about making reservations?  More than a year? My focus would be puma photography.  What are your favorite times of the year outside of winter?

Glad to see you got interest in Torres del Paine through this report!

I would say that all the seasons are OK, but some people love autumn (April). I would recommend to prepare your trip a year in advance to book the puma guiding, especially if you go there in Summer (January and February).

Thanks @jeremie - I was thinking April to try to find less people & less wind, so glad you mention that.  I will be contacting the guides you mentioned and hopefully I can work out something that I won’t have to sell a kidney for 😂

Glad this popped up again.  Those cats in the snow and silhouetted in the blue night sky are spectacular.  It seems you had no trouble finding pumas, the snow maybe helped for tracking.  I did not see which month this was.  If your plans worked out, you'll be heading back!

In the middle on the COVID-19 with no posibilities to go out, I took time to look in my old files and started to go back to this trip form Torres del Paine from 2018. Here are further pictures to make us dream in the middle of the hurricane!

I also bought in France last year a Mavic drone which I used a lot in Pantanal and Chilies Island in Southern Chile.

I have published this short caption from Chepu, a wonderfull mashy area in Western Chiloe, perfectly located on the Pacific Coast, with healthy populations of pudus and Southern river otters.

Hope you enjoy it!

OMG, beautiful, fabulous, spectacular, stupendous photos! You're killing me though, I am so anxious that we won't be able to take our planned trip to Patagonia in October with @michael-ibk. But still hopeful :)  We are going to Chiloe and Chepu too...fingers crossed.

Can I ask what month the Torres del Paine trip was?

Thanks @janzin! All these pictures were taken in a very short 3-days but very productive trip during winter (June)

So pleased you took that time @jeremie - I've so enjoyed my time going through this superb report right from the start. Brilliant photos, amazingly portrayed wildlife and spectacular landscapes.

Do those stunning pumas have on a thicker winter coat that is lighter in colour?

Hmmm. That's a good question. I actually do not have the answer. I would say that light was very low so that the coat is possibly not as brown as usual at sunlight, apart this huge male which as a very light - grey - coat.

Without taking into consideration the landscape pictures, this bonus is the best picture for me. Merci de nous l'avoir fait partager.

In these days of Covid-19, I would like to continue to make you dream of traveling in the Southern Hemisphere... If you like vast, pristine wilderness, you should definitely consider Chile and discover the Magellanic Strait and the Darwin Range of Tierra del Fuego with www.patagoniaphotosafari.com

More superb photos @jeremie and I'm wondering what is the species of fox/wolf/jackal which is winking at you in photo 3 above?
