The Yellow-crowned Bishop is one of my favourite birds although I have only ever seen the one in breeding plumage. Really difficult bird to get correctly exposed, Zvezda did really well so bit of a shame about the post in the way but a great shot none the less.

Ha, I was looking at some of your finches and waxbills and I thought, " I recognise that location" - of course it was Mkhuze. What a great place for birding.

Indeed so, Martin. A quick count tells me that 54 birds were posted from Mkhuze, and 46 from Royal Natal. While Mkhuze might have a slight advantage of being the first location, it really fulfilled our expectations. Excellent hides, great drives, nice camp. Only few visitors, affordable prices ... a place to be visited again.

The fact that we have collected (over) 200 different birds during our 2 weeks of birding in KwaZulu Natal really surprised me. On the field, I was not that optimistic myself, and my forecast was that reaching 100 would be the most we have done. Obviously I was very wrong.

Here they are, the last batch of birds from South Africa, at least those that will count for the Big Year, and if no extra will be found when preparing the trip report.

Over 200 South African birds sounds like a really good result to me.  I really enjoyed looking at them and look forward to the trip report.
