Tdgraves big year 2019

I had an unexpected free afternoon today and the sun was out, so I thought I'd give it a go....

I saw some of these by the road in and hoped that I may catch one somewhere where I could stop the car and luckily enough, I did. My first ever photo of one!

These were a bit trickier - skulking and shy!

And because we have been lacking lots of new birds recently, some duplicates...

We went to a sunrise event at WWT Welney this morning, but the weather was not kind. Windy and cloudy, sunrise kind of passed us by. There were a few meadow and water birds, but the light was terrible. Managed to get this one for the BY, my first attempt at a flying owl in the UK!

I really like your Barn Owl shot - very difficult against that background and it came out really well.

  • 3 weeks later...

Getting difficult now, still nursing virus no. 3 for the month, so unlikely to venture out tomorrow - unless a thrush or jackdaw appears in the garden....

Seems a shame to end the year on an EBC...

But always great to see a Green Woodpecker! Get well soon, you will need all your energy in 2020! ;)

No shame with EBCs in any year. I should know!:P

Thanks @Galana @TonyQ and @PeterHG the day off work and lie in until 10.30 certainly helped....

Got a new motion camera for Christmas, so will check that later in the vain hope of a jay, thrush or a jackdaw...or something more exotic!

Happy New year from me too. Hope you are soon feeling better, there is a lot of ill health going around at the moment, Claire is suffering too.

Great score for the BY, frustratingly close to 500 but that's maybe next year now. Green Woodpecker is second on my target list to see in 2020 so I'd be happy with what you got!

Thanks @Dave Williams this one is really lingering.

Annoying that I had no thrush, jackdaw or rook to bump the numbers up a bit, still, more than 50 better than last year, so can't complain. The new motion camera is much better resolution, all the usual mammal suspects but nothing to help the BY. Rudolf wanted a selfie though!

Happy New Year to all...here's to another BY in 2020!

that in two weeks time, we’ll be half way to Joburg ;)

Now that sounds like a plan! I'm definitely following your example. Have a great time in SA!

I have spent the last 2 years trying to find a green woodpecker, so not a bad bird to finish on.

Happy New Year and have a great time in SA.

Thanks @PeterHG @Zim Girl and @lmSA84

Today is week 3 and I am still on the pills, but perhaps feeling a bit better (fingers crossed). Hopefully the weekend and then a short week will help. Clearly being in the KTP will be the ultimate cure...
