sorry @kittykat23uk - not sure.  Looks somewhat like a Redpoll but I know it is not one.

Nice and easy this one! Well it was, too easy so I decided to make it a bit harder by showing it in black and white and in a weird pose.

Thanks @Dave Williams. It's your own fault for choosing a bird recently posted in your Big Year.

Will try to post something tonight.

@Peter Connan - tough one.  Is it molting / growing in new tail feathers or something?

The face and breast band make me think 'Apalis'.

What about Rudd's Apalis?

@offshorebirder, I think you're on the right track (which kind-of gives the game away), but the location was wrong for Rudd's Apalis.

Clue time

The family is named for their tails...

@Peter Connan I think perhaps based on your clue that this could be an African pied wagtail albeit one rather lacking in the tail department.

@Peter Connan My first thought was actually mountain wagtail but then I changed my mind and went for pied, I think I should have stuck with my original thought, is it a mountain wagtail?

@offshorebirder - thanks - given the weather in the photo I figured it must be Northern Europe or Northern Asai and from there it's not too tough.

@lmSA84 - I can't  see much of the flanks or back, but I am going to guess Chestnut-backed Chickadee.

And there I was thinking that you just guessed it was for the trip I just got back from...
