Juvenile Hyena on a Wet Morning

Photographed at 7:10 am on 18 February, 2017 in Kruger National Park, South Africa, using an EOS 1D X camera and an EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II super-telephoto lens.

ISO 250, 1/400 sec., f/2.8, 400mm focal length, handheld Manual exposure.

Not far inside Kruger National Park's Kruger Gate is a culvert which hyena's use as a den. We'd stopped to observe them as moderately heavy rain fell.

This juvenile hyena exhibited considerable curiosity, walking up the embankment to inspect the vehicle, thereby facilitating this portrait.

A friendly family from northern New Jersey was in the vehicle, the two sons expressing their delight at observing hyenas at such close range.

Don't think I'll ever forget this image, taken 30 minutes the impala delivered her baby/his meal. Somewhere near the border of Olare Motorogi Conservancy and Maasai Mara National Reserve.
