I am waiting patiently for someone to do a Sala's-Solio mix (both in and out of season). I think it will really be a stellar combo. The Safari Collection team is doing some incredible conservation work at their ranches, but they are (understandably) reticent to talk about it very much. I hope someone visits soon.

Haha, agree with SD that Hari's photographing all sorts of strange wildlife these days :P Lovely, lovely silhouettes.

Sangeeta, I'm pretty sure Sala will rock during Prime Time and shortly after the herds leave ...... Not sure about after that during and just after the rains; my guess is the grass will be really tall. I was previously put off with the description on ATR website (how wrong they are) ........ in terms of Sala's being close to the mini van circuit. Not at all ..... by the time, they can get from Keekrok etc etc., will be atleast 10Am and beyond. The only other lodge near the look out area is probably Ashnil .....

Don't worry about being predator obsessed MAC - the resulting photos are truly magnificent :-)

You're back much too soon. But that seems to be the only bad news. Goodness, you are enthusiastic about the Mara! First time in Africa?.

Serriously, great to hear there were lots of cheetahs for you.

This segment is ala that Seinfeld episode"the reverse"- Remember that one? ....... If you don't - the episode goes from the end to the beginning ;) ....... Let's start with the last game drive.

Monday morning (October 27th) with the double cross pride (part of them, atleast) ........

Said Goodbye to Stella and the Mara Toto team at 5 45 Am with bags packed .......... Plan was to try our luck and head out straight to the area where Leopard Mum/cub would hang about; later try to find Rani the cheetah and then head off to the airstrip ......

Nature has it's own agenda, though; Round the corner from camp we bumped into good ol' Mohawk. He would take us on a walk to find part of his pride; and then just like that around 6 30 Am, they were done for the day and would retreat to the thickets to have a snooze!!!

Off we go........

I just saw a Facebook post that mentioned Imani losing her cubs a couple of months ago because of bad driving in the Mara and the possibility that some of them were driven over ........ Anyone know if this is true? Apparently the official report mentions, "natural causes" ........ If it's anything like the Elephant last week - the Mara and KWS really need to wake up!!!!

I´m never sure if it´s Amani or Imani. The second female cheetah with five cubs in the main reserve, yes? Our guide told us her cubs had all been killed by lions, at the start of September.

Great lion pics, and love that Bat-Eared Fox! And glad you still got to see some herds.

Amani still has a youngish cub (you may have seen the video from @@cheetah80 s recent visit) .......... they have not been seen in a while. Some reports mentioned that they went away to the Serengeti.

Yup, Imani it is - who is according to the Mara project, the youngest cheetah to be a mum in the Mara.

Wonderful photos @@madaboutcheetah ! Glad you had a good time.

Interestingly enough our guides in OOC were hinting at pretty much the same thing regarding cheetahs in the OOC - too many lions are putting pressure on them! I wonder how this will play out in the coming years.

Thanks Michael and Alison....... Michael, got lucky with the B E fox ..... One of my hopes was to get a relaxed Serval cat which the Mara is renowned for - alas, not so lucky!

Next segment is the plethora of Plains game in Maraland ......

Well, you were definitely luckier than me - didn´t see Bat-Eared-Fox at all in the Mara. :(

Great shots in this entry, I´m very much enjoying your apprecation for Topis you seem to have discovered this year. And wonderful silhouette of that Grant´s!

Thanks - haha ..... as you can see my camera's point of focus on the plains game mixed herd often goes towards a Topi that catches the eye! ;)

What a whacky week this is ...... Just saw a facebook update from Entim camp - their guide saved Malaika's 5 cubs by getting out of the vehicle and physically shooing away a Hyena clan that was after them and got help from other guides too ........... Mara! you either get it or you don't!!!!

Hmmm. I am against this sort of intervention. I have opined extensively on this in other threads. How mad would be "@madabouthyena" about this?
