Majestic Moorlands, Peaks and Falls - a Return to the Aberdares

@@AmyT We'll be visiting in June 2017 and I would rather be visiting in another month to be honest. According to the historical weather data (and of course that is not that much use - just better than nothing and good as a general guide) June has more rainy days and significantly fewer clear days than July, although July isn't exactly clear. so views may be limited (but you should get at least what @@michael-ibk saw) but a better chance of sun and views in July than June. Colder weather in both months though, so probably misty and foggy. Wish I could have convinced my wife that staying at the relativley low altitude of Nyeri would be better than up in the highlands, but she wanted in the park or nothing. Stubborn!

Michael I missed the updates on this. Great stuff from you all on the duikers. Have you seen the Sangare web site? They describe the platform as a "tree house" and organize outings there to help fund the bongo observation project which erected the platform (and attract a few guests no doubt). So perhaos they are exaggerating a bit or perhaps the project have done it up a bit for that purpose. No way I am leaving my roaring Fire at Fishing Lodge for a night there in June but it's a great find and I would love to do it. Incredible anyway that bongos are an achievable goal for Aberdare NP, even if still a bit of a long shot. If Petra hasn't't already got that set up she should get it sorted for younwith the project asap. Will be a great outing as you can do the salient before and after, including another one of the salt licks. I have to warn you that will not hear the last of it if you chicken out. I couldn't possibly take my 76-year old mother (there I have my unbreakable excuse - bring your Mum or get it done- so I can do it through you and get excited about the opportunity to do it another year). Wow, there is always so much to do in Africa. I don't want to wish myself closer to death but I am really looking forward to the first 5 years of retirement, before the money starts to run a bit low. Way to go yet though!

Congrats on that rarely seen species--the black fronted duiker, which has not disappeared from the Aberdares, it was just waiting to pop out for you. One more reason this is such a special spot!
