508/EA179.) Eastern Violet-Backed Sunbird (Anthreptes orientalis) / Schwalbennektarvogel

Lake Baringo, 1/12. A bird that was a mystery to me - until I read the crucial sentence "Beware pollen stained individuals with orange throats, they have been feeding in aloes." in my bird book. :)

screentraveller

The Malachtite sitting on the twig he has bent earthwards looks as if he was meditating on eternity with his upwards glance.

All the other colourful birds against the wonderful brightness of green leaves seem to be in paradise.

511/EA182.) Turkestan Shrike (Lanius phoenicoroides) / - x Red-Backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) / Neuntöter

Solio, 4/12. I had trouble identifiying this one but learned at birdnet the trouble was understandable. The experts there reached the consensus that this is a hybrid between Turkestan (which is a recent split from Isabelinne) and a Red-Backed. I´m including it as a new species because a numbering with 511 1/2, 512 1/2 would be a bit cumbersome. :)

And a juv. Red-Backed Shrike, also from Solio:

*sigh* I always, always forget about Crows, I must have something against them. This bird was probably one of the most common ones we saw, they are in every village, really abundant, but it did not occur to me to take a picture. Let´s just call this a "habitat shot". :)

524/EA195.) Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus) / Pirol

Mara, 26/11. New entry in any case. Possibly an African (the streak behind the eye would fit) but I think the dark wings point towards an Eurasian. But I could be wrong - and probably am. :)
