The young male wanted to force its sister/cousin to play the mating game and obviously it did absolutely not suit it.

This is the end of the report of the last stop of my March 2016 trip. The report of the previous stop at Selinda will follow soon.

I would like to thank all those who have shown interest for it as well as those who added one or more comments: @Atravelynn, @michael-ibk, @madaboutcheetah, @Marks,@@pault, @Tom Kellie, @hannahcat, @optig, @TonyQ, @AndyH1000, @@Game Warden, @@AKR1, @@ice, @@theplainswanderer, @@Neeners815, @@Kitsafari, @@Big_Dog, @@SafariChick, @@Geoff, @@Hads, @@offshorebirder.

I would also like to thank my guide, Vundi, for his competence and knowledge but also for appropriately almost always put the vehicle in order to have the advantage of the best possible light and sometimes it was not easy at all with subjects in constant motion while avoiding getting stuck in parts of marshy land.

To close the story, a few pictures.

Duba skies (end of the afternoon).

@@Bush dog...have loved every word and photo of you trip report. We have been the Duba three times and the landscape and the lions are special. From the Duba Boys, to the Skimmer male and now a new male. It is a great update. Those youngsters must have been posing for you, and in such perfect light.

Magnificent finale. Bravo. Long live Duba Plains. This report should be required reading for folks going to DP to understand two important facts:

1. Despite the sometimes misleading marketing by TOs and ingrained reputation of DP as the place to go to have a good chance of witnessing daytime lion/ buffalo action, this is NOT the case anymore and actually has not been so for many years. It was indeed true a decade ago that in a say four night visit you had an even chance of seeing such action.

2. It's an incredible, stunning concession with so much more as evidenced by this report.

Mike, thanks again for making the effort to share your wonderful visit with us.

Lots of people want to viist places like New York, Las Vegas, Monaco, Monte Carlo etc - no doubt interesting at a level but who wouldnt take a week at Duba Plains or many other wonderful African safari locations - to see lions, elephants, fabulous birds, african sunsets etc etc and to take lasting images like Bushdog has - that to me is a HOLIDAY!!!! Im headed in a few short weeks to South Africa and mainly Namibia over 3 weeks so really hoping to see some great wildlife - animals and birds! If I get shots like Bushdog I will be very very pleased indeed!

Go Africa!!

Cheers

Thanks again Mike - I confess lions often don't excite me as much as other predators but your photos proved how cool watching them can be. Great report again!

i loved those photos of the cubs playing in the golden light. gorgeous portraits of that cub on the mound, and the two rascals on top of each other.

your photos made the pangs of missing the African bush that much harder to bear.

Looking forward to the encore. are you continuing in this thread or a new one @@Bush dog?

It will be new threads. Indeed, I first spent 10 days in Hwange in two camps. Then I went to Selinda and Duba was the last stop of my trip.

Of all the absolutely stunning, crystal-clear, felt-like-I-was-sitting-there-on-the-same-eye-level-with-the-lion-cubs pictures, for some reason, it was the ones with the siblings on top of each other that really got me too. Maybe it was just such a family moment -- the gesture (in humans at least) is so fond and dismissive at the same time. So you're-so-familiar-to-me-you-might-as-well-be-a-lump. But also: let's watch prey together.

Enough of my anthropologizing -- I loved them all. Thanks so much, and I can't wait to see what you brought back (images-wise) from the rest of your travels.
