Thank you for your comments. This trip, in particular, was splendid but for me, in any case, every trip in the bush is a feast!

The next morning, we spotted the dogs but they were only five. Once again, we followed them. Obviously, emitting their contact calls, they were trying to find the two missing.

Very quickly,we saw the latter rush, leaping into the tall grass.

They found themselves close by a pond, in fact a small part of a floodplain not yet dried up. Close to it, there was also the carcass, already well begun but not entirely devoured, of a freshly killed impala, with two yellow-billed kites (saw a lot of those birds during this trip) on it. We thought that, in the early morning, the impala was killed by the five dogs, during the hunt, they lost the other two and after having previously fed itselves, they began to look for them in order to share, together, the remains.

The alpha male was the first to take a piece.

Meanwhile, the kites had of course flown away and circled over the pack……..

@wilddog You outdo even yourself-I just love your photos of wild dogs. They are arguably the best photos of dogs that I've ever seen. That photo of a kite is just wonderful as well. What type of kite is it?

Thank you again. To get decent pictures of wild dogs, there is always a part of luck. What's making it difficult is the fact that those guys are, most of the time, in motion and also it's not easy to anticipate their movements.

Most of the carcass was left, at least for a moment, to the two that were missing. I do not remember if the latter were the two subadults, but I’m sure one was certainly…….

I know that so well and there are often several in motion in different directions.

Lots more great wild dogs!

I'm still in the Shinde part of this report, not yet in the Selinda part that will soon follow. In fact in Selinda, I only saw dogs in the distance.

They already found the two missing dogs. It's on #28.

Sorry, if I may have been obscure in the text.

Hi Hari, I thought you were gone to Australia. Was there not an important cricket match on Boxing Day?

Did you find the striped cats?

Once they had finished their meal, they decided to stay somewhere near the pond. I noticed that they approached the water cautiously. I guess they must be afraid of crocodiles.

After having quenched their thirst, the wild dogs set out again as if they were going to hunt again, causing a group of tsessebes to scatter all over the place. Maybe, it was only a game this time, they gave up and went to lie in the shade of a large tree where we left them.

A little later in the morning, we heard the alarm call of the baboons. It was obviously not because of us. So, we looked around and we spotted in the distance, far from where we had seen it the day before, the couple of lions. It was again on an island in the middle of a wide open space. Having almost joined them, they are mating for, no doubt, the umpteenth time. It will take exactly 36 minutes to see them start again. They were probably near the end of their relationship.
