Red-knobbed Coot have been reintroduced to Mallorca. Some have white collars on which allow researchers to track movement.

A very striking looking bird

A lot bigger than the Reed Warbler, it also sings more loudly. In this case we heard it first and then were able to sit on the other side of a small pond watching it sing to the world.

(More S'Albufera will follow in the next batch)

I don't know if I am influenced by watching many years ago-I think it was "Life of Birds" where I learned that if food is scarce coots will start driving off and refusung to feed the -presueambly-weakest youngsters reducing the brood to more manageable levels but your coots red eye looks more athan a little menacing @@TonyQ

Some more good birds there, I have never seen Red-knobbed Coot, it's an ugly bird especially with the ring around it's neck poor thing.

@@TonyQ, We didn't get to that group of islands last year on our Spanish trip, so I am enjoying your Birds, the Wildflowers reminded me instantly of the Spanish countryside. Your "heat haze" comment made me smile, luckily you can walk out the door and be there in a couple of hours.

This really is an amazing bird. When we saw the painting in the bird book, it was easy to assume that the colours were exaggerated. But close up in good light it is a stunning bird.

We regularly heard Cetti's Warblers - they appear to be very common. We often had glimpses of them, and a few times had a decent view. (In the UK I hear them regularly but have only ever had one glimpse)

A real EBC. We had glimpses of fly-pasts a couple of times but I was too slow to get a proper photo.

I am posting a few birds that we already have from the UK - just to show the variety of birds. This Snipe cam right in front of the hide for quite some time. They are usually fairly secretive!

post-45513-0-87645700-1494854312_thumb.jpg

S'Albufera 12.04.2017

I have put this in even though it is a rubbish photo just because it was one of my favourite sightings. It is on the far side of a small canal, hiding amongst the reeds. It is the first time I have seen Little Grebe babies, and were delighted to see them on the adult's back, and to not the similarities with Great Crested Grebe chicks.

(The contrast between bright sunlight and deep shade was really difficult, and I had to focus manually as the camera couldnt cope with all of the reeds!)
