Oh crikey. 2017 is already flying past and I'm just getting around to posting my first birds.   It has been a slow start but hopefully a trip to Botswana in May will help me get my numbers up. In

#66 African Stonechat (Saxicola torquatus)

Chobe River, Namibia. May 2017

This one is not as sharp as I'd like, mostly because the subject takes up such a small part of the original frame

Time for some hornbills

We were lucky enough to see a 'Full House' of hornbills.

Red Billed, yellow Billed, Ground, Grey and Bradfield's. Sadly, not all of them sat still for photos.

#73 Green Wood Hoopoe (Phoeniculus purpureus)

We heard these chattering away in the trees, and saw them quite often - from a distance.

#74 How about some Kingfishers.

Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis)

Chobe River, Namibia. May 2017

I like this shot because it clearly shows the different markings between male (on the right, double breast band) and female (single breast band)
