328/ET251.) Streaky Seedeater (Serinus striolatus) / Strichelgirlitz

Somewhere between Addis and Guassa. They were very common in Guassa especially but going through my photos I realized I never made an effort for them so this is the only one I have.

331/ET254.) Ethiopian Siskin (Serinus nigriceps) / Schwarzkopfgirlitz - ENDEMIC

The last one. Not exactly going out with a bang here rather very ebc but I´m sticking to the scientific order. At least it´s a proper Ethiopian endemic. :)

So that concludes the Ethiopian part of my Big Year. According to Wiki 924 bird species can be found in the country, so I´m very happy with getting 254 (more than a quarter of the "menu") of them. I´d guess we saw at least a 100 more, not really sure. Concerning the endemics I do remember that we saw Erlanger´s Lark and Ethiopian Cisticola but both were not cooperating. The two most interesting endemics not seen, the Prince Ruspoli´s Turaco and Streseman´s Bush-Crow (which is the cover picture for my bird book) were never a possibility, we would have had to go a bit more South to the country than we did.

From now on - back to good old Europe!

That is certainly an impressive number @michael-ibk ! A very rewarding trip, thanks for showing so many of them on this thread. And you Big Year thread is already up to 331! This whole thing puts a strain on my finances. I have felt obliged to book a short trip to the Kruger NP park in November just to try and get anywhere near at the end of the year.......:D

I am very sorry for making you a poor man, @PeterHG, but I think even though going to Kruger will be a huge burden for you and certainly totally unpleasant you will manage to suffer through it. ;)

@michael-ibk birding in Ethiopia is helping you a lot this year!

Have you been able to ID all birds using a book only, or did you have notes from the field?

@xelas

I did not take notes as such but ticked off the species photographed in my list consulting Abiy daily. So I knew which birds I had in general but not which name belonged to which bird.

Yeah, it is so much easier when an experienced birder is at hand :D! Have you already ordered a bird book for Costa Rica ??

Well done on 300+. A wonderful sequence from Ethiopia - even your EBCs are good EBCs!

I have really enjoyed following this section.

Great new additions and fantastic total once again Michael

Very interesting that the Paradise Flycatcher there has a white tail and markedly more prominent white wing-panels.

Thank you, @TonyQ and @Peter Connan!

I was lucky enough to have a seminar in Barcelona a few weeks ago and of course added a birding day. After two very productive outings to the Ebro Delta last year I decided to try the steppes for a change. Far more challenging, not the huge numbers of birds like by the sea, and not too easy to approach, but thanks to my guide Carles I did get some interesting new species.

332/E101.) Short-Toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus) / Schlangenadler - NEW

Lleida Steppes, Mas de Melons, 15/7, Spain

A nice sighting in the morning. Once in a while the odd vagrant also finds its way to Austria, we´ve been having one for a few weeks in Seewinkel this summer.
