The Channel.

post-48450-0-89320400-1493627364_thumb.jpg

The last game drive on the concession was going to produce the best sighting of the stay. We were along the Channel on the road leading to Savute. I asked Piet to stop to make a photo of the bridge leading to the Wilderness concessions (Duma Tau & King's Pool).

post-48450-0-47340600-1493627366_thumb.jpg

Less than five minutes later, two hundred meters after the bridge, it was there on the left side of the road.

Wrong Hari,

It was a young male leopard, lying on a branch a the top of a leadwood whose trunk lengthened upwards, which allowed it to have a high position and therefore a very wide and clear view on the bridge and the opposite side of the Channel, where one could see some red lechwes.

The lions always put on a show for you. The leaping lechwe and those carmine bee eaters were trying to steal the lime light this time. Selinda was good to you!

Then, it decided to come down. I have always admired the ease of felines to climb a tree. But when it comes to going down, it is a different kettle of fish.

Once on the ground, it took the Savute road but quickly changed its mind and came back to us to lie down in the grass.

post-48450-0-00501200-1493913295_thumb.jpgpost-48450-0-76647400-1493913297_thumb.jpgpost-48450-0-30615400-1493913306_thumb.jpgpost-48450-0-09530100-1493913310_thumb.jpgpost-48450-0-19718200-1493913312_thumb.jpgpost-48450-0-65004500-1493913314_thumb.jpgpost-48450-0-52452100-1493913316_thumb.jpg

It then crossed the road to stalk a francolin. The grass being high, it was soon no longer visible. It was, however, there, in view of the noise made by the francolin, which had meanwhile been joined by starlings and other birds. Finally, annoyed and contrite, it got up and took the direction of the lagoon and then disappeared into the tall grass.

This is the end of the report. The next day, I was on my way to Camp Hwange.

Thanks to all of you!

Magnificent and truly inspirational as always Mike! The Swaynon's really allowed you a nice close-up, the lion sightings were outstanding, the bee-eater photography absolutely brilliant, and i have run out of superlatives to describe the leopard's decent.

Thoroughly enjoyed following Selinda Once Again @@Bush dog. Wonderful sightings beautifully captured.

Your photos of the Zib lagoon triggered a recall of two memorable sundowners way back in time one with elephants the other with lions.

I think that handsome leopard on your last drive was there to make sure you'll make another return!

Thank you so much for your nice words!

Being there, it reminded me immense memories, in the occurence also tremendous sundowners back in 1998 with tens of elephants, coming from the Savute, waiting in line to drink.

@@Bush dog - looks like we're talking about the same elephants. It was August 1998 when I had a wonderful stay at Zib which Lloyd and Sue Camp were managing.

There are great chances that we are talking about the same elephants. Indeed, it was in an extremely cold month of July. I was at Main Camp which Alan & Charmaine were managing.
