Elsewhere on ST, there is currently a thread about being scared on safari. I reckon this bird has probably caused more heart attacks in the bushveld of Africa than sugar ond fat combined, as anybody who has ever walked in the bush can probably attest. They (and their ilk) have this bad habit of sitting tight and only flushing at the very last moment, screaming both shrilly and loudly as they rocket upwards!

A great sequence of photos - how you get such a picture of the lark in flight is beyond me!

I set out with my idea of acceptable quality a priority, now I'm just trying to hit as a higher number as I can , you get hooked in to it!  Mind you I have quite a few species I have got images of that are really too poor to use!

Thanks everyone @Tdgraves, @TonyQ, @PeterHG and @Dave Williams.

Tony, i cheat. If i get a nervous-lookoing perched bird i aim slightly in the direction it is looking and wait for action. Some type of gimbal  mount is very usefull for this but the keeper rate is still low.

Dave, i fully agrèe. Last year i posted a couple of shots that could really have been anything at all, and i want to avoid doing that again.

Of course knowing that i am not in the running for totals makes it easier to keep the red mist at bay, but makes it necessary to create some other challenge to make competing in any way worth while...
