Alphabetically should have been the last, but not a great photo to finish on.

The Yellow-billed Kite is extremely common - many of them seen every day. It is very easy to stop noticing them, which is a shame as they are impressive birds

I think this is a juvenile as beak is not fully yellow. Notice brown eye.

Some sources treat this as a subspecies, but more recent classification treats it as a full species

Almost all of the kites we saw were Yellow-billed, but there are some Black Kites, migrants during the winter. It has a pale streaked head, and particularly noticeable is the pale coloured eye and black beak.

And so we reach the last of the birds from The Gambia. We probably saw another 5 or 6 that we didn't manage to photograph, or are completely unidentifiable from the photo taken (including a Green Turacao - or a very distant black blob with a hint of green hidden in bushes!)

It was our first vist and we really enjoyed - we think it is a great winter birding destination, easily accesible from the UK at least. Skilled birders would probably see more than we did, and trips that go "up-country" would see even more.

I am sitting looking at snow outside our window as I post this, thinking about the warmth of The Gambia!

@TonyQ

Well you certainly knew how to end on a high note.

That Gonolek is a stunner. A good selection too in the back end of the alphabet.

A couple of very brave calls and to only miss 5-6 out of 182 is darn good going too. Enviable collection.

While snowbound you may care to look at the first of the YB Kites. It does not look quite right somehow.

They first started coming to our garden when we put our suet blocks, but now they have also learned to take sunflower hearts. Lovely little birds!

I made a mistake -I have included the Lesser Black-backed Gull twice, in the UK and in The Gambia, so I will post another number 200!

@Galana Thank you.It could be a young Black Kite I suppose - they have brown eyes when young. DIfficult to tell!

I was thinking more "Eagle" with that broader aspect ratio wing, darker coloring and large robust bill. but it could be down to the angle of the shot.

Well done on the 200. Brambling is not a bad bird to achieve it with. That is some garden list.
