Fairly common, seen in many locations - and they sit out in the open!

This was in a small pool at the side of the road leaving DeHoop. It was recommended by @xelas in his trip report and was an excellent place to bird watch from the car. So thank you!

I will also add a few that go on the South Africa Total but do not move the overall score forwards because we saw them in The Gambia.

Intaka Island is a small reserve surrounded by modern development in Cape Town, but it was a great place to go. It may appear a few times over the next pages!.

Great start Tony, some excellent BIFs - I take it you are happy with the new body?

To paraphrase a TV person: Tony, your camera will focus! (original: Your blade will cut). Excellent in-flight photos, and overall quality very good. What was the lens used, @TonyQ?

And, glad that you have enjoyed DeHoop. Looking forward to see Western Cape through the eyes of your camera (and your words, of course).

Very good work with the new Canon, @TonyQ! Excellent additions and I am looking forward to more.

@michael-ibk thank you. Yes I am happy with the new camera. Very easy to adjust to it, and it certainly focuses more quickly on BIF. The only thing I miss is the touch screen (not the flip out because I rarely used that.

@xelas thank you. Same lens as before Canon 100-400ii. We did enjoy DeHoop and your advice was very helpful.

@PeterHG thank you

So it looks like I will not be able to complete this:(. I have a few photos ready which I will post, and then I will try to pick out a few favourites and post those.

Luckily not too many larks where we visited! There are a small number of similar looking long-billed larks, but this seems most likely based on location.

Really pleased with this sighting. We were watching an African Snipe from the car at @xelas pool when this bird came down for a drink. Fairly scarce I believe.
