As others regarding the Treecreepers! Very interesting.

Your Goldeneye sequence is excellent. Not only the G.C Grebes are getting in the mood by the look of that drake.

21/E21.) Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus) / Krauskopfpelikan

Lake Kerkini, Northern Greece, 17/3/2018. This is a great birding destination just an hour´s drive North from Thessaloniki, very close to the Bulgarian border. I spent one day here after a seminar. Much too short, and March is not a very good time, but still I saw plenty of species. (I used Natural Greece and their freelance guide Lavrentis Sidiropoulos, definitely to be recommended, very good company.) The weather was not too favourable, so I won´t post much from there (hope to get better ones later in the year), but the Pelicans were the main stars, and they really are magnificent birds. First time I´ve ever seen the Dalmatians, and especially now in breeding plumage I have to say they look even cooler than their Great White cousins.

Shouldn’t you have to be in Zakouma?! Anyway, those pelicans are beauties, and the two of them flying ove4 the golden coloured water a wallhanger!

loved those treecreepers - they are quite fascinating birds creeping on trees for food. that blue tit is beautiful, and so are your photos of the chestnut grebe. but your close-ups of the pelicans are just stunning.

can't wait for your Zak numbers!

Thank you all - the Pelicans were very accommodating.

22/E22.) Crested Lark (Galerida cristata) / Haubenlerche

Lake Kerkini, 17/3/2018. Very common around the lake in the agricultural areas, and not very shy. It was good to see them in numbers - in Austria (like most meadow birds) their populations have crashed badly.

23/E23.) Grey-Headed Woodpecker (Picus canus) / Grauspecht

Lake Kerkini, 17/3/2018. A Woodpecker I have only seen once before (back home, in Carinthia), so I was delighted that we found a pair of this species in the riparian forest.
