@Zim GirlYou will be sorry about skipping the LBJ's as ST bird experts are very knowledgeable and always willing to help us greenhorns.

Lovely start and I am sure many will follow.

I still have one or two and a few others I will need help with as you will see!!

Great opening post of the Turaco, and also love the Gannet colony! Looking forward to see what else you found.

Thanks Michael.  We loved the gannet colony and Bird Island, one of the birdy highlights.

This bird was a resident of the tree outside our cottage at De Hoop and was quite happy to share our bench with us.

This was another very friendly bird but I am kicking myself because I had a lot of opportunities to get a better picture than this, I just thought I already had one.

On looking at these again, I am sure there is a Cape Shoveler lurking in the background of the 2nd picture so that is a bonus.

Distant shot of this, it was the only one I saw.  Can anyone ID the small wader flying in front?  I have a feeling it is another white-fronted plover though, which I already have.

On the two mornings we were at De Hoop, we were up at sunrise to have a walk around before breakfast.  The first morning we walked alongside the vlei and spotted this bird flying off from the rocks.  It was one we both wanted to get a better view of, so the next morning we crept very quietly above the rocks peering over the side and there it was.  We were able to take some photos and leave without him noticing us so 'job done'.

Could you try to give us a tighter crop of it? White-Fronted Plover is very likely the right choice, it does seem to have a nuchal collar. OTOH, it looks very pale, and the wing bars are very broad. My first impression was Sanderling. And who knows, it might even be a Chestnut-Banded Plover.

Oh my, me and my big mouth. :-) Sorry, still not sure, but would rather go for WF Plover (mainly because of size/shape of bill and collar).
