We were really pleased to find these birds on our way out from De Hoop.  We also saw them at Swartberg later in the trip.

Next stop was for 3 nights in Wilderness, a town and National Park situated along the Garden Route.

I have a few sunbirds but only one of this type, I think. Bit rubbish but I think it is the greater double-collared because of the wide red chest band.

Before we set off on the Kingfisher trail from the Ebb & Flow campsite in Wilderness, we saw this bird diving in and out of the water.  I didn't know they did this so we were wondering what it was at first.

Towards the end of our trip we stayed for 3 nights at Witfontein, which is a beautiful old farmhouse owned by @Soukous and is situated in the Swartberg Private Wildlife reserve in the Klein Karoo, not too far from Oudtshoorn.

See below

The pictures barely do it justice.  It is a wonderful place and the setting opposite the Swartberg Mountains is stunning.  We were able to wander around the reserve as we wished.  It was very peaceful and we saw many of the various wildlife species including giraffe, eland, kudu, zebra etc.  It was quite special to wake up in the morning to find a herd of Lechwe on the back lawn or come back to the house to find a group of Blesbok cooling off by the pond.  We spent pretty much all of our time on foot and tried hard to spot a few birds as we walked around.

Well that wasn't as easy as we had hoped, despite Martin's list of 220 bird species, and I am afraid a lot of what we did find is going to be posted on my 'help with id' thread later.

But I will start with an obvious one.
