I agree with all you say about Hyenas. The youngsters are very cute and the interactions are fascinating to watch. I always enjoy seeing them. Your photos of them are great

I LOVE ❤️ hyenas, and I find them so beautiful. Especially the upper hierarchy animals. One  huge female we saw in early morning light simply took my breath away in the Serengeti recently. There red and gold  hews of her coat are etched in my memory. Cubs are indeed precious. Had a phenomenal sighting in Kenya years ago. They are so maligned by many. They cannot help how successful they are, the niche they evolved to inhabit, nor how their survival tactics make them unpalatable to many humans. I really do not get the hypocrisy. Wonderful pics!

Just like the previous year, we spent a morning in the photo hide (except my son who prefered to go on the game drive), it´s really a nice place to practice some photography and, beeing at water level and very close to the waterhole, the perspective and angle are great.

Some of the stars of the hide are the birds, and there was plenty of bird activity.

I have to move on and finnish this trip/photo report...

Elephants Galore, that´s the best way to describe what happened during more than one hour in the photo hide, there are lot´s of elephants in Mashatu and lots of them decided to visit the waterhole while we were there, family after family, I would say that during that time nearly 100 different individuals showed up to our delight, because elephants are everybody´s favourites and in the photo hide they are really close, only a few meters from us and we get the smells, the noises, the dust and the splashes, an absolute treat, and it was so intense that when they were all gone and it was time for us to leave the hide, we were all tired.

Here they come

The hide gives an excellent perspective on the eles.  It seems you choose hide or game drive.

Family life with hyenas--precious.  Great job on the kill shot (owl).

It appears you have been to Mashatu before.  Or maybe it's an annual getaway?

The photo hide is an extra activity with a price and the morning (or afternoon) you go there you have to skip the game drive.

Me and my wife we had been to Mashatu in September 2018 http://www.safaritalk.net/topic/18987-awesome-mashatu/, that´s why this time I´m only posting pictures without describing the trip.

The low angle of the hide really accentuates the size and majesty of the elephants.  Lovely photos.
