OK I will try to show a bird from a different angle to make it a little more difficult

Well it looks like Galana's Law is not going to be much help with this one.:(

I have a distinct New World feel to this.

I also feel it is no coincidence that teh bird is holding its head that way.;)

How far wide of the mark would a search of Bush Tyrants take me?

To take one although I am really in unfamiliar territory would be Santa Marta BT.

@Galana I am afraid that you are using the wrong book.

I am quite sure that almost all regular participants in the game has the proper book.

With regards to Galana`s law it would be possible to find a photo of this bird where the law fully applies:rolleyes:

Hmmmm. So I must hop back to the Old World to a Rufous or Cinnamon bellied what? Thrush?

The eye and bill colour rule out Rufous Chatterer to which it would be difficult to apply Galana's Law any way.  So with my law and your hint in mind that a full frontal would assist I will go for "Spot throat" but the speckled back worries me.

I have never seen one so I would not know the finer points that illustrators miss from time to time.

2nd bet would be Red-tailed Ant Thrush but again it ain't quite right.

Too nice a morning and lots to do. I will leave it for now.

@Galanayou are getting closer but not there yet:D

Be careful not to read to much into my comment about the angle of the bird.

The comment about Galana`s law could also lead you astray:rolleyes:

Well I actually mean to put White=tailed as the closer match but I doubt that is right either.

With the chin hidden it could be an Equatorial Akalat

@Galana  You seem to be looking in the wrong area although you are on the right Continent.

Yes, well this is what happens when one concentrates on males and discounts the gentle sex.

Hurrying south the illustration in SASOL has a much better picture of Cape Rock Thrush and the text says the f has much darker rufous underparts.

@Galana  Cape Rock Thrush it is! Picture taken at The Nest Drakensberg Hotel grounds.

The bird was skulking so not easy to get a clear shot.

True. You have been waiting a while so quite befitting you get in there at last.

I did wonder if anyone would be deflected by the habitat.

Over to you.

woo hoo!

Plumage said it had to be a weaver

bill was too slender for almost every other weaver. The papyrus was a help rather than a hinderance

sorry for the delay, it takes a while to find an appropriate image.

I hope this is not too obvious - and that I have the correct ID in the first place

Well that would certainly help or how would we know?

Looking at the habitat I am going to suggest Brown Parisoma as my opening shot. (and if you don't know anyway it will make for an interesting call.:D)

No, not a Brown Parisoma.

Well we are well and truly in the realms of LBJs and as one might expect quite a few can be made to fit with a little imagination. The lack of a clear supercilium  removes quite a few suspects.

Assuming South Africa as being your main haunt we may as well start as far south as we can and work north.

How about Krysna Warbler?

Well how sure would you be that an alternate shot was of the same bird?:P

It's a bit early for alternates but I leave it to you because when I have worked my way up through Africa without a result I don't want to think about such things as Himalayan Bush Warblers.

Very sure. I have many shots of this bird, but obviously didn't want to put up the ones that make it easy to identify from the start. B)

#soukous is the above not a clue that we are talking about a quite common bird?
