@Galana  I have been part of this game for a long time:D but not been very active the last year.

There is indeed a bird called a Cream-vented Bulbul. The scientific name is Pycnonotus Simplex. @Kitsafari probably has pictures of it, as it lives in her area.

yes @mvecht @Galana there is a cream vented bulbul that's found in Southeast Asia, and I had that in my 2019 list as number 296.

Galana's pix does look quite similar to our bulbul.

My apologies. I should get out more but in my defence I had never heard of it.

I fear I must now ask if this game has an Umpire as it seems my subject has a split personality.

an interesting dilemma. It does look very much like a White-throated Greenbul (that's me trying to sound knowledgeable and no doubt about to get shot down in flames)

Is it possible that there are 2 (almost) identical birds in different parts of the world that have been allocated to different species?

Or even in Africa.

Bulbuls, Greenbuls and even Brownbuls are never easy and the books don't help.

Here is what Sinclair say:-

1-1-Splash216.jpg.2c48d4ccd06e0ada62201be916ccc54d.jpg

He then goes after several pages to confuse further with Andropardus and, as if that was not enough, after four more pages of the bleeders he introduces more pages on Chlorocichla and Bearded before giving those still awake Bristlebills AND Honeyguide and, Spotted Greenbuls.

Some Greenbuls are Brown and some Brownbuls are Green

What IS a boy to do?

Then we have em with regional (and often imperceptible) variations such as Mountain, Terrestial, Northern or even Cameroon. Cameroon Sombre or even plain Sombre as @Peter Connan suggests. I can understand why he does not want to win.

More flavours than one of those trendy Coffee shops!

And don't whatever you do consult another book as it starts all over again. Split em, Lump em (I would like to vote to shoot em).

Sorry. Over to you @Peter Connan I am reading Fanshawes. Plate 158.

Oh I did not think. I knew what it was. As Fanshawe records it on Plate 158. Zanzibar Sombre Greenbul.

Seen not on Zanzibar but near Watamu in Kenya.:D

Oh bugger, me and my big mouth.

Well, my computer is still being repaired from it's recent hard drive crash, so I literally have nothing to post. Thus either the game stalls until it's fixed or I take a photo of something with my phone's camera (which in itself would make identification almost impossible) or somebody else needs to take the gap and post something?

Ha Ha.

The game is called "Name that bird!"

Nothing in the rules says it has to be a photograph.

How are you with Watercolours?:P

the rules also state that it doesn't have to be your photo. You could take something from Creative Commons or in the public domain and post it using your phone.

Nah. Too clear.:P

My guess is some sort of Heron. Most likely Grey or Black headed.

As an aside this is much more fun than some obscure LBJ up a tree.

Couldn't be a Fruit Bat could it? Nah, too sneaky. I'll go for a Black-crowned Night Heron.
