Well I ducked the 'obvious' one of White-crowned Sparrow due to bill colour but I suppose it could be a youngster.

Dirty little tyke.

it is a rufous-bellied thrush the national bird of Brazil,

That would explain why I couldn't find it in my Africa or India books :(

Well it is not a Goshawk for sure.

We have looked at the Whydahs/Widows but apart from Pin tailed the bills are wrong.

I am with @Soukouswith only limited libraries

I do have Sibley West North America, bought in a foolish moment, and Birds of Ecuador as well but that is my coverage of the New World.

I did have Peru and Brazil but I lent it to Colonel Fawcett a while ago but he never gave it back. That's the last one I lend him.

That would help, but I’m afraid I’m not going to do that .

Not really. It is definitely not insectivorous so we can discount all warblers etc.,

So Sparrow, Finch, Bunting or similar.

I don't think it is Petronia petronia called Rock Sparrow in English. A Pin-tailed Whydah has already been offered more in hope than reality.

I am out of books. The annoying thing is it looks so familiar but when you check carefully it is not.

Yeah. 10 down and only another 3,000 to go.

I am coming back to Whydahs with Paradise. Either Eastern or Broad-tailed.

Hmmm. Just to be clear, are you aware that Eastern Paradise Whydah, Paradise Whydah and 'Long-tailed' Paradise Whydah are all the same species?  They are all Vidua paradisaea.

No :P but it´s irrelevant.

I must say that I thought it was going to be easier so I´m giving a clue, it´s a female or a juvenile.

Ok, you probably knew that already..
