Well done @michael-ibkAs I scrolled down and saw the Speckled I thought "I hope he gets the White-collared too."

Virtual Ethiopian endemic at the airport. Well done. Serious stuff.

Gallinules and Lesser Moorhens can be found here.

1-boabab220.jpg.e1472c944c31e1fbf48259eefe135cfb.jpg

"North" of Big Baobab and '8' there are several small tree lined ponds inside the loop made by the main track. A large tree frames one. Just scan the low overhanging bushes and keep quiet. Don't disturb the resident leopard;) Let her sleep.

If uncertain ask my friend Riva from Wildlife Camp to show you where I took him last Christmas.

Anything else you need? Arnott's Chat, Raquet-tailed Roller, Barred Owlets perhaps? Scops?:D

Good luck.

Pel's is a distinct possibility along the River bank and at Mfuwe Lagoon shown on 'my' map above.

Right - Zambia! E-Bird tells me I IDed 209 species there. As I expected most are overlaps with my Southern Tanzania entries. Which made the trip a bit more relaxing than usual, did not have to run after each and every bird I saw. @Zim Girlwill probably only realise now how much worse it (=I) could have been. B)My set target was 50 new ones, so let´s see if I got that. It´s November and I´m lazy, so I will restrict the additions to the new ones, and won´t do a full Zambia list. All Photos taken Oct 3rd to 16th.

442/ZA1.) Spur-Winged Goose (Plectropterus gambensis) / Sporngans

A surprising miss in Tanzania, and also pretty sparse on this trip. Only a few distant individuals in the Musekese Camp dambo.

443/ZA2.) Swainson´s Spurfowl (Pternistis swainsonii) / Swainsonfrankolin

I have no excuse for not getting a better photo, while not as abundant as their Red-Necked cousins they were not uncommon in the Nsefu sector of South Luangwa especially.

444/ZA3.) Schalow´s Turaco (Tauraco schalowi) / Schalowturako

Glimpsed at Pioneer Camp, heard quite often, and better views in Musekese Camp.

Quite common in both Kafue and South Luangwa.

One bird showing nicely in SL, Central Area. Also heard Fiery-Necked and Freckled.

447/ZA6.) African Finfoot (Podica senegalensis) / Binsenralle

A Kafue river specialty. Just one individual seen this time. As usual for this species, it was not in the mood to pose and ran as soon as we approached.

448/ZA7.) Wattled Crane (Grus carunculata) / Klunkerkranich

A Kafue specialty, but only really up North on the Busanga Plains where we did not go this time. Fortunately a few individuals were around on the central dambo in Musekese. Quite shy and difficult to approach.

Regularly seen in both parks but not as abundant as their White-Crowned cousin (in Luangwa).

451/ZA10.) Kittlitz´s Plover (Charadrius pecuarius) / Hirtenregenpfeifer

Another bird I had been surprised to miss in Tanzania. And scarce here as well, this was the only individual we saw (SL, Central area).

452/ZA11.) White-Fronted Plover (Charadrius marginatus) / Weißstirn-Regenpfeifer

Unfortunately almost on the other side of the river (and the Luangwa is not exactly a small one) but I still had to try for them - a lifer for me.

Always quite a special bird to see. Two individuals around the Hot Springs of the Nsefu Sector in SL, one in the Kafue.

457/ZA16.) Great White Pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) / Rosapelikan

Just one very distant sighting in the Nsefu sector, perfect ecb-material. Had seen many of them last time in Zambia, but that was near Lake Itezhi Tezhi and the Busanga Plains.
