Can be mistaken for Asian Barred Owlet but smaller.

I mentioned Asian Barred Owlet last time so here is one for comparison. It is I think the same bird on two different occasions 48 hours apart.

A good guide to Asian Barred Owlet is their habit of splitting the breast feathers like this.

There are other differences apart from size as you may see but teh best guide of all must surely be 'location' as Jungle Owlet is unrecorded in NW and NE India whereas the Barred is a native of the Himalayan foothills where this chap was seen near Ramnagar just outside Corbett NP.

Adult male Eastern Screech-Owl (Megascops asio).   It is a 'gray phase' individual and the father of the fledglings in the videos I previously posted.
