With such low population numbers there would be concerns about low genetic diversity

sounds like the cub survival rate is low

do you have any idea as to the size  of the female/cub range  and the male cheetah  territories?

good news on the wild dogs, and on how successful Amani's legacy is.

Such amazing photos!  I was worried watching those cubs cross the river!  Thanks for such a great escape to Africa!

@madaboutcheetahWhat a great report, and what beautiful photos.

It was great to meet you there in Naboisho and share some of those sightings with you.

@COSMIC RHINO research shows that high tourist numbers in the reserve result in lower cheetah cub-rearing success rates.  Lower tourist numbers in the conservancies result in higher cub-rearing success rates.  More research needed, but that's the conclusion for now.  You can read about the research in a popular article (written by the researcher herself) here: https://theconversation.com/why-cheetahs-in-the-maasai-mara-need-better-protection-from-tourists-101123

Whatever the case, if it wasn't for the conservancies, the population would be exponentially lower.

Thanks  Zarek Cockar

for  anyone  wanting the original research paper  it is open access  at  Natural and anthropogenic drivers of cub recruitment in a large carnivore - Broekhuis - 2018 - Ecology and Evolution - Wiley Online Library   and not too  technical

I  did not use  the mention function  as it does  not work for me

Some great shoots there Hari. Thanks for sharing. Good to see hear that Mara has some visitors as was concerned for the camp staff.

Wow, what a great experience with the leopard and genet in the same tree!

That has to be a first!
