Lovely additions again, which makes me look forward to the return of our swallows. I feel perhaps your Cliff Swallow might be a scruffy looking Barn Swallow.

@PeterHGWhat? My swallows scruffy? How dare you!! :D I'm happy to accept a wrong ID - I can just about tell a sparrow from an ostrich. Shall I consult a few more sources, and then change if necessary?

@Dave WilliamsThat's quite an allegation. Not sure what you are referring to.

Don't worry about it, cheating by mis identification is perfectly acceptable if you can get away with it.:D

As well as EBC there is ECB.  'E Could be'.

@Dave Williams, you had me really worked up, emoji or not. To you and @Galana, thanks for clearing it up. All smiles again.  (I'm new here, remember and don't now all your dirty tricks yet:o)

But: a mis ID in this case is simply a mis ID - count stays the same.

And I have a couple of ECBs, as well as a slew of EBCs. Be afraid, be very afraid!!!

Fair motoring now. You must remember the most important thing about this game is not to take it or any comments seriously.I have developed my own cunning plan to increase my numbers this year;)

@Galana, your thoughts on the scruffy Cliff swallows? @Peter Connan?

@Dave Williamsif you had said that my photographs are the worst you have ever seen and could I please take up colouring in stick figures, I would have laughed it off. Anyway,  all smiles now. And the cunning plan involves...? Yip, motoring along - but I see lean times ahead.

The ones that have turned out to be Barn swallows.

Thanks @Dave Williams!

And in other news, we're allowed to buy booze and be on the beach again - and we're also big enough to stay out until 23h00. Even better: the first consignment of vaccine has arrived; health workers first in line, obviously, and I'm really happy for them.

Thanks for the clarification and glad you had rain.

We have been fortunate with rain the last few weeks too, and the far east even more so. I don't know if you saw the video that has been circulating Whatsap in the last week about the Biyamati coming down? I have always dreamt of seeing a bushveld river coming down like that, but I am always in the right place at the wrong time. Or maybe in the wrong place at the right time.

But I am glad I wasn't sitting under the weir when it happened...

@Peter ConnanHad to google it - can you imagine the sound of the all that water? What we had here was the usual summer katspoegie.

We were at Sossusvlei a few years ago when it rained - will post some pics tomorrow.

@Peter Connan, @GalanaThe robins are the only birds I've succeeded in training to sit still until I'm done fiddling; the rest all have an extremely short attention span

This last batch all from the garden, @Kitsafari

Another case of where I should have used an emoji! They are pretty shy here as well, bu the moment I start digging in the garden, they pay attention to every move. If I move away from where I'd been working, they start digging over the loose soil in search of worms.

The local bowls club's singles championships gave me an entire Saturday all to myself. Did I do something worthy, like washing windows or vacuuming the carpets? No, I did not. I opted for both worthy and enjoyable and set out for Greyton - another hamlet - on a quest for birds, of course, and a reward of food and drink should I succeed. If the reward had been based on photo quality, I would have deserved nothing more than stale crumbs and luke-warm water. But I had fun on the way, and that should count as well, should it not?

First off, an exquisite selection of very-stale-crumbs-and-water-worthy EBC. All taken on what I call the Helderstroom road, simply because it passes the Helderstroom Prison:o

A most unusual occurrence here, where the 'in-flight' shot is much better than the on-ground one :D. Not that it makes the former something to get all excited about, but still...

And now, the creme de la creme, the worst of the worst, the shot that shows that every bird does indeed count:

37) Cape bulbul          Kaapse tiptol          Pyconutus capensis

And bird, cropped, severely. If I had not seen it flying past I would not have bothered to lift the Dinkytoy.
