Thanks much @Galana, @PeterHG@xelas @michael-ibk @Peter Connan  @Soukous

@xelas hope you are well wrapped up! it was sizzling yesterday over here - up to 34 degrees celsuis, according to our car temp. i was seeking shade all the time while out birding.

Here's one more kingfisher for the fisher's admirers - so two remaining kingfisher species to capture for the rest of the year - the blue-eared kingfisher and the very rare diminutive black-backed or oriental dwarf kingfisher.

28: Little Bronze Cuckoo, Eastwood vicinity

A resident in our neighbourhood. we often hear its lovely trills. Yesterday, we saw a small and very silent cuckoo, that was called away by a firm trill from the adult in another tree, so we think the smaller one could be a juvenile.

I can easily see myself spending a few days of next winter in your part of the world! Temperature and birds are much better than here.

A wonderful collection of kingfishers!

Local Peregrines also best on tall buildings. Cathedrals are popular

Thanks everyone.

now for some woody woodpeckers

32: Banded Woodpecker, Baker Street

A pair of banded woodpeckers was nesting in a tree trunk in the middle of a pond. The adults were busy feeding 2 chicks which were about to fledge. One of the adults had been seen trying to lure the chicks out with food. But the chicks refuse to emerge, which was so unfortunate because a few days after we had watched them, the Javan mynas - which is an invasive species here - raided the nest and attacked the chicks. One parent woodpecker valiantly fought two mynas but while one chick flew out, the other sadly fell into the pond and a monitor lizard attracted by the commotion pounced on the fallen chick. The fledged chick seems to be still doing alright as it's been seen by other birders. All goes along the law of survival......
