That will change radically once the Gulf Stream / North Atlantic Oscillation shuts down and Western Europe's temperatures plunge.

I got curious.

If the temporal expansion of the winter period extends and summer recedes (including cooler temperatures) as the UK cools for longer and parts of Europe too, causing a biological clock mismatch, a return to the UK could no longer an option for countless birds species. Portugal and Spain is a stable refuge, and can become permanent home for many species, as the temporal calendar and average temperature in winter and summer seem to be stable in recent decades. The complex question of the nutritional needs of each migrant species remains open when disabling the return to their natural ranges of occupation.

A very worrisome scenario, is that more or less what you are warning?

It seems extraordinary to me that such small and fragile species engage in such long migrations, crossing vast inhospitable areas.
