Above will probably become Crop Of The Year photo! Excellent glass that allows such extreme cropping. And rock-steady hands of the shooter!

The Merlin was actually an added bonus on the real targets.

BY71) Tree Sparrow was one 0f them

But the jewel in the crown should have been, and photo wise it was

72) Barn Owl

Pal Mike and I spent 7.5 hours waiting for very few opportunities, perhaps 5 fleeting visits although for one it did sit in the dark recess of a dilapidated outbuilding eating a Vole and didn't rush it's dinner.

That Merlin must have been satisfying, but your Barn Owl shot is just incredible!

Thanks Peter. Here is something I picked up on though.I have always thought that the Barn Owl was quite a pretty bird, beautifully marked and a cute face but if you look at the second shot  the face transforms in to something quite ugly! Tho Owl's beak lifts like a Jack Knife and it's true size is revealed. It tears through prey with ease.I won't show the gory shots!!

7.5 hours of waiting was well worth it for those awesome shots of the barn owl.

No gain without pain. Freezing cold and a strong wind made for tough conditions out on the cliff tops but at least the sun was out at 7.00am and so were the 73)Peregrine Falcons. The male exchanging food with the female were a good 400m away but once again the crop ability when you have 45m pixels to play with helps tremendously.

What a great moment to catch and at that distance you still got a very good shot!

Also the focus accuracy plays a huge role! Excellent shot, Dave. I hope your fingers are all intact?!

Despite wearing woollen gloves on my hands  I had to use them to find some of my warmer bits to get the blood circulation going every now and then Alex!
