As a post-script, it turns out that the young leopard sitting on the riverbank as we headed for the airstrip was the same one who was trying to get some of an older leopard's kill in a tree. You can see him begging for food a few photos back and also there are several more shots in @Zim Girl's TR, Stuff Doing Stuff. She also included a photo of a young leopard seen after we'd left when on a game drive with Phil and it struck me that they could be the same animal, especially when she spotted a very small, v-shaped nick towards the top of his left ear. You can see it in the photo below. 

 

I sent some photos to Phil and this is what he said: 

 

He has recently been assigned the ID MSM12, and is most commonly seen along the ‘Thumb’ loop. A great cat!
