1998 Memories of Selinda and South Luangwa

11 August 1998

Say goodbye to Gill from New York. Set off with Robin & David & Ann Marie.

Large flock of carmine beeeaters in morning sun. On walk see eland & track them quietly getting fairly close to two. Elephants in lagoon – more elephants round corner. Stop for break and see vultures – walk further but don't locate kill. Drop Ann Marie off at gate. Plants seen included wild jasmine & wild gardenia which used to be favoured by rhinos.

Night drive with Celeste & Paul. Elephants drinking & large spread-eagled herd. White tailed mongoose with frogs. Bushy-tailed mongoose. Meal with band & dance beforehand. Drink with Alex at bar.

12 August 1998

Breakfast at 8.00am with Celeste, Alex & Sanford. Say goodbye to Celeste & Robin. Drive to Mfue with Alex & Sanford. Fly to Lusaka. Get off at Lusaka & meet and chat to Jo & Harvey from Lewes UK. They'd been teachers in northern Zambia 30 years ago and had returned to the village where they'd taught. Who should then arrive but Jill and Rex. Had just been telling Jo and Harvey that had met a couple from Lewes in Zambia.

Fly to Livingstone and have a great circuit over Vic Falls. At airport say goodbye again to Jill and Rex!  Transfer to A'Zambezi River Lodge and we have dinner with Jo and Harvey. Next day head to Selinda.
