Some lovely birds here in Europe if we can only find them.

Fancy a coffee anyone?

To be fair, it should be noted that Alex spends a lot of time drinking coffee so it is inevitable that he will see some birds while doing so

That Wryneck is a great sighting! I am thoroughly impressed with how quickly Zvezda is getting used to the new toys. The amazing Barn Swallow sequence says it all!

Eppur si muove ... here they are, our birds from Thailand! Yes, photographing birds is the easiest part of the job. Browsing through 10.000+ photos is time consuming but doable. IDing and cataloging a much more daunting task, for me anyway. These days when bird names are changed almost daily, books do help but not always. For me the game changer were two apps: eBird to keep daily record of birds seen and Merlin Bird ID to help me with IDs. The later is not infallible yet works most of the time (not that much with warblers ...).

This March we have gave Thailand a chance to show us its birds. It was not a hard core birding trip (as it was India) but our itinerary was built around more prominent birding locations north of Bangkok. We have used bird guides 3 times, full day: Khao Yai NP, Doi Inthanon NP and Kaeng Krachan NP. Interestingly those days were not the days when we scored the highest numbers of species per day. Exact itinerary will be given in the upcoming trip report.

Species will be reported in relevant groups; the idea to post them by locations was discarded as otherwise I would not start until May :P.

Of course I will start with my beloved species :D,

Bulbuls in Thailand are so different from Bulbuls here! So much variety. Lovely.

I see that when you did get hold of the camera, you made excellent use of it!

There are 38 different Bulbuls in Thailand, according to Birds of Thailand book. Of which 22 can be found north of Bangkok. Of which 4 are rarely seen (Chestnut Bulbul 1 record, Brown-breasted Bulbul, Light-vented Bulbul and Red-vented Bulbul). We have missed White-headed Bulbul and White-throated Bulbul.

While humble Bulbul might not be on everyone's Top 10 list, they surely looks much more fascinating than any of those LBJs named Warblers. Yet fear not, no more bulbuls but still some gorgeous-looking bird will be posted here in next few days :).

I am adding this Babler not for its feathers but for having a very colourful character. And because it does not have any company from his cousins.
