Scarlet Macaws are fine looking birds but if only they kept their beak shut! Congratulations for reaching #100 in Guayana.

Congrats on the beautiful #100! Many excellent photos again, in spite of the challenging circumstances. I love the White plumed Antbird, what a spectacular creature!

An inspiring name for the lodge, too…!

Catching up! Sorry to hear about your back problems Michael...we have much in common in that I too have had spinal surgery, got fed up processing images and decided that a new approach to the BY was needed!

What camera gear are you using nowadays? I've been considering various options but just can't decide so will carry on as I am for the time being but as my R5 died on me on my trip to Lesvos ( fortunately with just one day to go) I am desperately in need of getting a back up. It's all about the weight though and @PeterHG's success with the OM-1 has me interested. I rather fancy the 150-400mm with the built in TC but waiting to see how that pans out with reports. The total weight is less than my R5+100-500 and you have a range of 150-1000m but far less pixels for cropping so I really don't know.I love the Canon gear but it has it's limitations too. Would I want to run two systems side by side. Difficult one!

Interesting that both you and Peter ended up with trips in a similar part of the world too and will have had the same low light issues. I have just booked to go to Costa Rica next year, a return from a trip 15 years ago, so I am also thinking about low light solutions. At the end of the day though I'm no longer prepared to spend silly money just to get shots for the BY or any other social media. It's daft! Been there and done that!

Anyway, watching your shots  to start reminding me of species IDs. Keep on posting!!

If not walking deep into the rain forest there is enough light most of the time … when it is not raining 😁.

Disagree - I do appreciate that they announce themselves, much easier to get ready for the BIF shot!

102/G102) Black-Faced Hawk (Leucopternis melanops ) / Zügelbussard

Atta. A pretty restricted range from the Guyanas to Ecuador. Not common, and difficult to see because they mostly stick to the canopy.

Atta. Just for once, a rainforest bird posing nicely and patiently. The second photo was taken at Karanambu.

107/G107) Paradise Jacamar (Galbula dea) / Paradiesglanzvogel

Atta. A very cool-looking Jacamar - unfortunately one that is very small and which prefers the high canopy.

110/G110) Chestnut Woodpecker (Celeus elegans) / Fahlkopfspecht

Atta. Attending an ant swarm, together with some Woodcreepers and two types of Antbirds. Not exactly a proper ant party - still waiting for that neotropical birding wonder.

Atta. A new Caracara for me - an extremely noisy bird. Very distant.
