Just catching up on this thread and there have been some superb additions but special credit to @kittykat23uk, @Elsa Hoffmann for their "with prey" shots, the Cattle Egret is indeed a rarity shot and also to @Geoff for nailing that Martin. No easy task . I'm envious of all three!

This is one of my favorite ducks - a hen Wood Duck (Aix sponsa).  The male is gaudily beautiful but the female is also quite attractive.

Northern Harrier coursing over the salt marsh in search of prey.  Photo taken across the marsh from Wiggins, South Carolina.

This is a "Bird in Flight" I suppose - a Bonaparte's Gull mid-dive for a cold-stunned fish that was being washed out with the tide.

When things go wrong...

Shutter speed too low (1/500th), badly over-exposed (I had the exposure compensation wound up as it had been flying against an overcast sky seconds before), and at a relatively high ISO (2500) too.

I am surprised the result is in any way usable, but I really love the pose and how it's flying between the greenery.

Perhaps I should start a new thread called "Birds in Fight."   These are Lesser Yellowlegs with increasing springtime hormone levels fighting over foraging turf.

This Marbled Godwit surprised me with a close flyby during a shorebird survey at the Yawkey Wildlife Center this past Monday.  Unfortunately it was partially backlit during the encounter.
