Safaritalk is a non-commercial, free to use internet forum highlighting wildlife conservation, sustainable safari tourism and community initiatives in sub Saharan Africa, (as well as other destinations). It is neither owned by nor linked to any company or organisation and is independently run. We do not vouch for endorse or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message posted.
Where Safaritalk contains links to other sites and resources provided by members and third parties, Safaritalk holds no responsibility or liability for the contents of those sites or resources.
The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this bulletin board. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable/potentially libellous or is otherwise against the spirit of Safaritalk's ideals is encouraged to contact us immediately by email using the contact link at the bottom of the page, by private message, or by reporting the post to the moderation team with your reasons. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.
When using the Safaritalk forums, please bear in mind the following:
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, offensive, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violating any law. Please also bear in mind the age ranges of those reading Safaritalk and refrain from using swear words and vulgar language; and whilst no part of Safaritalk contains content aimed at users under the age of 16 years, content posted on the site may be public and thus viewed by any persons of any age. We have the right to remove or edit any material or posting you make on Safaritalk if it is obvious such material does not comply with the above list or general good conduct.
Safaritalk is for the users, its members: you. It’s about sharing quality and informed information and viewpoints, interacting with like minded folks and therefore we all must take responsibility for our behaviour on the site - however in the event that there are continued infractions of these rules, then there is the possibility of being warned against further such behaviour, suspension of the users account for a limited time, or the member's account being banned.
For further information regarding libel law please see:
You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by Safaritalk, or you have expressed permission from the copyright holder to publish such material, or you have expressed permission from the copyright holder to publish such material and provide this within your post in addition to full creditation. For further information please see:

Including news or other written content from another source
As a member, by uploading text, "making a post" or posting images or videos you agree that Safaritalk has a nonexclusive copyright to publish such information within the parameters of the Safaritalk website itself, and once having made a post, you cannot, at a later date, request/demand its removal/editing for any reason other than those expressly permitted under the Safaritalk Privacy Policy or unless with the express approval/at the discretion of Safaritalk's admin/moderation staff, who will then undertake to do so for you.
(Editing a post. Time window. However, having made a post, you are allowed a two hour courtesy window in which you can personally edit the post - after which you must contact Safaritalk's admin/moderation staff, who will then undertake to do so for you if approved.)
If, having created an album/s in the Safaritalk members gallery and uploaded photos/images to those albums, you cannot at a later date delete those albums/images unless with the express approval of Safaritalk's admin/moderation staff who will then undertake to do so for you.
By making a post, or uploading an image/video to Safaritalk, you agree that Safaritalk may use part of, (as in quoted attributed text), or unedited whole, (e.g., attributed photograph), to specifically publicise www.safaritalk.net via social media pages, e.g., Twitter, Facebook etc.
If Safaritalk is acquired in part or full by a third party, or merges with another website, any content uploaded to Safaritalk will be transferred to the new partner/owner as part of the forum transfer.
Cancelling membership:
Should you wish to cancel your Safaritalk membership at any time, please contact admin via the Contact us link at the bottom of the page and let us know. For further information, please refer to Safaritalk’s Privacy Policy regarding the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Note for Safari tourism professionals:
If you are involved in the Safari industry in some way, then you must select one of the following for Category 1: Tour Operator, Travel Agent, Ground Handler, Travel Marketing, Safari Guide, Lodge Owner/Manager. For Category 2, you can then select another option which best represents your interests. This is to encourage open and transparent discussion in a safe and trustworthy environment.
If you are a tour operator, lodge manager, travel agent etc., you agree not to publicise your company, blatantly or otherwise except in the Lodge Camp and Operator News subforum, such as listing trips and itineraries, feedback, latest news and so forth. Also, with prior consultation with Safaritalk admin and at their discretion you may also publish details of specific special offer itineraries aimed solely towards Safaritalk members. However, if it is considered that a post goes against this, it may be edited/deleted and may lead to the responsible member’s account being banned and deleted.
As a Safari professional you can make mention of your company in your introductory post in the Introductions forum, and you are encouraged to include your website address and contact details as a part of your signature. (This is automatically publicly visible every time you make a post.) This can be done when logged on by clicking on the drop down menu by your user name: then My Settings, click the profile tab - then change signature: don't forget to make your web address clickable...
You may respond directly to a member if a question is asked about your property/operation. E.g.:
Q: I'm specifically looking to book 5 nights at Lodge A between the following dates, but cannot find prices or details of specials online.
A: As manager/ess of Lodge A, I can confirm that for those dates, prices can be found at our website here, and there is a special pay 4 stay 1 free offer.
You, as Safari Professional, may not send unsolicited Private Messages to other members with any kind of offers, deals etc., without previous prior consent from each individual member. If found to be doing so, your account will be banned.
Safaritalk is neither promoting nor endorsing any of the operations which post here, and all responsibility for content lies with the individual poster.
Safaritalk plays no part in the booking procedure for any safari or offer listed: all transactions are made directly with the operator responsible for listing the itinerary offer. The operator is responsible for the safari listed and any communication is with them, not Safaritalk.
Also, Safaritalk receives no commission or incentives on any safari or special offers listed anywhere on the Safaritalk forums.
If, as a Safari Professional you have a query about how you may use Safaritalk to promote your company or services, please feel free to get in contact with me via a PM or by using the Contact us link at the bottom of the page.
If you are advertising or self-promoting a product or service which would benefit those going on safari, (but are not a safari tourism professional), then please feel free to make mention of it within your introductory post in the introductions subforum. Self-promotion elsewhere is not appropriate on Safaritalk, unless under specific cases, and an example of what is acceptable is outlined here:
Q: I am looking to buy a camera bag that will fit my Canon + 70 -200, 300 2.8 etc etc and am considering so and so bags, can you suggest an alternative.
A: Having used a number of various bags during my recent safaris, I decided to design my own which compares well to the ones you mention, details can be found at ..........
Or:
Q: I'm looking for a great read before my next trip to Africa, can anyone suggest a book.
A: Recently I published "Tales of Africa" (example) which is available at ......com and was highly reviewed.
(Note, as a published author, whether fiction or non-fiction, relating to Africa, you may post details of your work in the Your Published Books subforum.)
Should anyone have any queries or questions, of course please feel free to contact us via the link at the bottom of the page or by starting a new topic in the Forum Help Topics subforum.
It is also recommended that you read the Safaritalk Vision so to thus understand a little more about the motivation for this website.
Safaritalk is regularly updated through members posting and submitting content, (text, photos, videos etc.), as well as changes to the forum itself, eg., graphics, software upgrades etc., and there may be times when Safaritalk is taken offline for short periods. Also that Safaritalk might be taken offline indefinitely. As Safaritalk has been running and live on the internet since 2006, some of the content might or will be out of date and Safaritalk is under no obligation to update such content.
Safaritalk's Terms and rules may be ammended at any time and therefore I ask that you check this page every now again and keep up to date, and we'll make every effort to notify you of such changes. Safaritalk may well also publish notices updating the information contained here elsewhere on the forum pages.
To comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from May 25th 2018, Safaritalk has updated its Privacy Policy and you are required to read it before registering but it can be accessed at any time via the Privacy Policy link at the bottom of each web page. You should check it regularly, and should there be major changes, you will be notified of such.
