@has What a fascinating report of somewhere I have never been and realistically will never get to.

I am so impressed with your road trip, the stamina of your children trekking up those hills and above all the series of photographs.

I particularly liked an early one of you ? With the children entering a huge cave. The rock carvings are indeed awesome. When do they believe these were created?

Another question what is the tree that seems to be bleeding?

The baobabs look familiar but different. Is it a different species from the one in Africa or is it that the environment makes them grow, generally, more 'stumpy'?

Thanks for making the effort to share it here. I have really enjoyed it

@@wilddog thanks for reading my report.

In regards to the Australian Boab tree which is only found in the Kimberly region of WA and the Northern Territory and the African Baobab I do not think there is much difference between the 2 except maybe a specie variation.

The aussie boab somehow found it's way across the indian ocean from Madagascar or Africa.

The bleeding tree I am unsure what type of tree it is, sorry.

The holiday was a fantastic holiday for the whole family, we are in the planning stages for a trip around Australia in 18 months time.

The kids did surprise us with how much stamina and energy they had.

Cheers

It was quite a long day travelling from Lake Argyle to the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park).

All up we had to travel about 440km's for the day , the last 65km's on corrugated windy roads where we set up the camper trailer for the last time on this trip at the Bush camp.

The Bungle Bungle range stretches for about 450km2 and the overall size of the reserve being approx. 800km2, so there is quite abit of real estate to try and cover.

The BB's has been registered as a World Heritage site since 2003 and is estimated to be 350 millions years old.

The landscape is quite amazing and in some parts from a distance the ranges look like Beehive towers which are made out of sandstone.

We enjoyed our time here at the BB's, our first morning we headed to the west and visited the Famous Piccaninny creek and Cathedral Gorge.

Cathedral gorge is a massive cavern which rises into the sky and makes you feel quite insignificant, words can not describe this place. We enjoyed a 4 km round walk trip in and enjoyed the serenity of the place. In the wet season it must be quite a sight.

Piccaninny creek was a nice walk along the creek bed on the outskirts of the "Beehives".

We also spent an afternoon visiting the eastern side of the BB's and went and hiked the Echidna chasm and the Osmond Look out, along the walk we found another Bower bird nest (no one home though).

The walk in was quite pleasant as you are surrounded by massive gorges and beautiful towering palm tree's.

Once you have entered into the Echidna chasm you walk through a large passage way until it opens into a open arena, it was something very special to see.

We celebrated our last camping night with a party as our middle child had just turned 6.

The trip out was quite harsh on my vehicle and I found I had 2 more damaged tyres, lucky enough I did have spares and changed them out once we got back onto the tar road.

I will let the photo's tell the story of the BB's, we really enjoyed them and it bought back special memories for my dad as he was last here in 1992 with my step mum (sadly since she has passed on.).

Enjoy - bye the way does anyone know why when I download my photo's they appear in a low resolution? Not sure what I,m doing wrong here. When I attach the photo's they start downloading at around 8-10MB per photo.

Ok so we have finished our time on the Bungle Bungles and headed to our final Destination which was Broome for 3 nights with a stopover on the way back at Derby.

From the Bungles to Derby we did make a few small stops taking photo' of the many varying styles of Boab tree's.

It was a relief to get to derby as this was another large driving day of around 700km's. Once at Derby we had a well deserved shower and a cold beer at the Spinifex pub.

We did have to change some tyre's though before we got going........

Wow, the Bungles look super-cool! I really enjoyed your re-telling of this trip, it´s so obvious from your photos what a good time you all had. Said it before but have to say it again: How I would have loved to go on such a trip a s a kid! Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, can´t help with the resolution issue. I know others have had this problem, and it was discussed somewhere but unfortunately I don´t remember the thread.

Thanks @@michael-ibk.

It was a great trip for all the family-with my dad we had the 3 generations.
