Lovely trip report! We'll be in Kruger in May, so I'm enjoying your experiences there. Also the bit about self-driving. We've driven in SA on both our trips and had no problems being stopped, but we did have a long land-transfer in Zimbabwe (in 2012) to Hwange, and our car (clearly marked as a commercial tourist vehicle) was stopped 3 times, with our Zimbabwean driver paying a fine the first time and demanding a signed receipt so that he would have something to show the next (2) fellows that stopped us! Maybe we will more seriously consider the transfers available to us...I guess we'll see.

I remember our first safari (2004) in Botswana, and the couple we shared a vehicle with were Brits who were on their 17th. This one will be our third. Perhaps 30 years from now you will be reporting on YOUR 17th. (Well, it is easier for ya'll on your side of the Atlantic.) Again, thank you for sharing your stories and your lovely photos.
