Really enjoyed your Aussie birds @Kitsafari, loved the Frogmouths and Nankeen night heron at the end.

Nearly a hundred species in less than a week doesn't sound at all bad to me!

Some great shots there. Love the corella vs raven, awesome shot. And the frogmouths are great, I've been looking for them for a long time, and suspect I've walked past many, oblivious, as they are so well camouflaged.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks @TonyQ @PeterHG @Zim Girl @lmSA84 @Peter Connan @Soukous @Alex Rogers. we really enjoyed the aussie birdlife. hope to get to the northern territories soon one day.

Getting back to the count, I'm crossing continents to west Africa, more specifically, to Gabon where nearly all the species are new to me as a new birder. It helps 100% when you have a good spotter, ID-er, young eyes and a gung-ho approach to birding. Thanks much @michael-ibk , i'm following in the tsunami wave you've created so the after-waves are tiny and less powerful. Most of them are record shots, and I'll unabashedly put them in for my own mere and selfish reason that I've seen them.

Despite the grey skies, overhanging clouds, forests being in the way, and the swaying boat that made sharp photos a miracle for me - there were a handful of nice shots thankfully, especially the bee-eaters which were super kind to me. So I'll start with them first.

I won't add comments since Michael has covered them so well.

400/GN03 : Black Bee-Eater, Loango National Park

I was alone when I took shots of this stunning bird. Michael and two others had gone on a separate gorilla trek, while I and Jane had gone on another morning and had to wait at the visitor centre while the researchers were searching for the gorilla tracks. This bird flew in and posed for a couple of minutes. it flew off to another branch and was joined by another one but the light there was awful and I couldn't get a shot of both together.

Still, very contented with this bird.

Congratulations on reaching 400, and a beautiful set of Bee-eaters to achieve that score. You are doing well in West Africa

Congratulations for #400! The bee-eaters are fantastic, and the dip in the quality showes only in a handfull of other photos. Grey skies can be a nuisance, either in Gabon or in The Netherlands :(.
