well my EBC seems to have stumped even the best of you!

Here's the photo with the malkoha's tail marked with red ink:

and here's a cropped section that's lightened up - you can just see the white scalloped ends of a malkoha's fabulous long tail.

Thanks for the wishes. I didn't think Herman and I would reach such a major milestone in 2019, it's been quite a phenomenal year.

Time (bloody time too!) to wrap it up!

602/CM67 : White-capped redstart

Found in exotic locations from central Asia down to the HImalayan ranges through northeastern India and Bangladesh into central and eastern China, down to northern parts of Indochina. A brightly coloured redstart with a startling bright white cap and a red lipstick belly and tail. Its preferred habitat is around rushing boulder-strew mountain streams and it likes to flick its tail up and down. A really jittery bird and we had to stay silent throughout. the lighting was low, so I had to lighten up a fair bit to see its bright red colours.

604/CM68 : Dark-sided Thrush

While watching the white-capped redstart, I saw a bird fly into the far end of the wet boulders. It sat there in the dark observing us before I alerted the guide and he confirmed it was the dark-sided thrush (a name which kinda remind me of the Dark Side of the Moon). The sooty thrush uses its unusually long bill to forage in the wet areas around the rushing stream for food.

Found in northern Indian sub-continent along the Himalayas and northern Indochina and Yunnan.

605/C69 :  Chestnut-flanked white-eye

As we were observing the white-capped redstart, there was a sudden wave of small birds to a tree by the stream. The chestnut-flanked white-eye is a  winter visitor to northern Southeast Asia and southern China from its breeding grounds of boreal woodlands in far northeastern China and Russia. The pretty tiny bird is distinguished by a broad patch of rufous on its flanks.

606/CM70 : Grey Wagtail

Well distributed from Europe to Asia, the grey wagtail likes to forage on nearby rocks along flowing water. In this case, it was along the banks of a small dam.

607/CM70 : Ashy-throated Warblers

we saw these warblers a handful of times at the visitor centre and car park of Doi Inthanon summit. The warber's ashy grey head and snow-white brow stripe makes it quite distinctive for a leaf warbler. Likes foothills to montane forests. It is found in the Himalayan ranges and Indochina.

608/CM72 : Black-throated Sunbird

The dark male was tough to photograph against the sunlight, but Herman managed to partly catch his midnight black throat against a red back and breast. Found in the Himalayan ranges to Indochina down to Malaysia.

Not that it makes any difference but I think you missed one bird between #602 and #604.

And your EBC is absolutely brilliant :D.

608/CM73 : Green-tailed Sunbird

We had searched high and low for this sunbird, often mistaking the equally splashy but more common Mrs Gould's sunbird for it. We almost gave up and were literally on our way to the car park as we were running out of time to leave Doi Inthanon for the airport. and suddenly along the road, a juvenile was spotted, and soon enough a male adult emerged.

the beautiful sunbird is found in the himalayan ranges and indochina

It's  been a phenomenal year for us both and it's unlikely we will see such numbers within a year. we are still grounded so not the best start for  BY year, but we were happy with what we saw and the lifers we got.

Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement.

Onwards and upwards for all.

Well done to you both on a magnificent Big Year - certainly a massive challenge for anyone to reach that score!

Your thread has been a real pleasure to follow,  I have learned a lot about your local birds. Both of you are producing lots of very high quality photos.

thank you @TonyQ @PeterHG @michael-ibk @lmSA84 @Zim Girl for following along and for your kind comments. we enjoyed learning about the new species and seeing so many gorgeous birds that are in our region and beyond. It kinda spurs us on to want to explore and see more and more new species! Hopefully one of my targets - exotic birds from the eastern Indonesian isles, one day.

Indeed!  I hear that Pivovarna Laško are raising production on this news.

I may be mistaken but I think I took Gold in 2017 too.

@Galana?! He is from another league, his Big Year should start with a handicap :P! On top, he is the only one that can squeeze 600 photos on 20 something pages. The rest of us must use 30+ pages. And my last lame excuse, his counting at the end of the year is a bit confusing, like 000 :D. Oh, I have just invented another (lame) excuse. The first member (Yes, we all know who is he) hold a membership card #000 .

I might be allowed to join the tour, but I will have to keep my mouth wide shut for the entire travel .
