I have shamelessly introduced a new topic because, whilst wandering round Ham Wall nature reserve in Somerset,we came across these for the first time, europe's smallest mouse-the Harvest mouse. a birder spotted them- a family of 4 amongst the reeds -all the time making high pitched contact calls and showing no fear of us or the small crowd that gathered.Someone , fearing for the safety, even picked 2 up to move them from the path. Apologies if there are too many photos! The 2 togeter are young ones and the fingernail is Jane's

Delightful addition to the Show Us threads.

@Towlersonsafari - of course this got me looking up info about Britain's mice and I've just discovered harvest mice are the only British mammals to have a prehensile tail.

thanks everyone, I do like your mouse of mystery @Treepol. We saw a chap trying o photograph something underneath his foot almost and his wife called us over-and then we watched them for about 30 minutes, as bold as brass and all the time chirping to each other! it was wonderful-and very tricky to photograph!

I love your adorable mice! Thanks for sharing! I am a children's librarian, and I am always struck by the fact that mice are such popular characters for children's books, but few people like them in real life. However, your tiny British mice really seem like they should be heroes in a children's story, don't they?
