Female dabbling duck photo ID guide

Recommended Posts

We have a lot of duck species in the UK, , among them Northern Pintail, Eurasian Teal, Mallard, Gadwall, Eurasian Wigeon and Northern Shoveler, and as long as the male is there they are fairly easy to distinguish from one another. Sorting out the females is a lot tougher.

This guide is very useful.

Nice post!

I do think thought that they should have added garganey, and if they couldn't add it because of space, they should have substituted it with the shoveler, who can always be recognized by the bill.

Yes, true. But I'll happily accept all the help I can get.

You Brits have it really easy on female puddle duck IDs.

We have to deal with challenges like Mallard/Mottled/American Black Duck/Mexican Duck.
