Eight years back in time : the final two days at Tafika Camp

The 24th of July was the last full day of our safari and we hoped for a Grand Finale of course starting with some early birds....79CB29EE-081E-49CA-B960-8E242B17BD0D_1_201_a.jpeg.e2296e68f036fce7c1c6f72f33cb3c99.jpeg

Amongst them two of my favorites the Brown-hooded Kingfisher we saw quite a few times around Tafika Camp and the Giant Kingfisher we had seen

before in North Luangwa and then it was time for the bigger game ...

Sensing that danger wasn't far away but they didn't have to worry too much after the night hunting :

There was a BBC crew around who were filming the lions so we had only to follow them 3265FFE7-1FA2-4AC1-9630-3E3E72A22C0D_1_201_a.jpeg.9406e18fa74d7fa4797295098ae557a1.jpeg

And we unexpectedly saw a reunion of the Hamerkop's

Driving a long time to the Chichele Salt Pan (or hot spring) ; for those who went to Tafika before this will ring a bell !

Driving back with light fading we approached the Luangwa River and suddenly we noticed a small party with a table and a cooled bottle of Champagne

and it took us a few moments to see that it was Nick waiting for us for a sundowner and to thank us for our second visit to the Remote camps and we

received a signed special edition of Peter & Beverly Pickford's "African Safari into the great game reserves ".

Needless to say we were very touched by that unexpected attention from the Remote team !

And then a bit later when we thought we wouldn't see a leopard on the entire safari ... be it a very shy one indeed

The next day , the 26th was departure day but only only in the afternoon and we did another entire morning drive and had lunch before Levis would

drive us to Mfuwe. Light was incredible that morning ...

Thanks for the lovely report @BRACQUENE- takes me back to good times with the entire crew at Remote Africa .......  I saw a recent photo in their social media of an incredibly large herd of buffalo from the air.  I'm sure the Lions are feasting on them as it gets into the heart of the dry season.

Thanks for an awesome report, @BRACQUENE, really enjoyed it. Bangweulu and North Luangwa have been on my list for quite a while, and you have renewed my interest. :-)

  • 6 months later...

@BRACQUENE, a little late, but loved your trip report. The wetlands looked amazing, and reminded me of Okavango delta. Did you see similarities as well? Can you compare/contrast? I still think the Okavango is the most beautiful place on earth, but sadly, too pricey for us these days.
