Thanks for the great report. I often forget how barren Hwange can look. If only dry season game viewing existed during the verdant wet season.

 

As for the number of lions, the same has happened in Botswana. We had 90 Lions between Xini/Blackpools/Gomoti, which is no more than 20kms. (October 2022)

 

The consensus from researchers is the droughts since 2019 have allowed populations to explode and provide free food.

The photo of the trip for me is the male lion peering out from behind the dead ellie.

But it's followed very closely by the bush-shrike and the close-ups of the extremely obliging owlet!
