Pantanal birds

Bush dog

Recommended Posts

I had a Pantanal and particularly Barranco Alto, where I went on each of the trips, period which went from 2006 to 2014.  It had the consequence that I had quite neglected Africa.  So, it’s been 10 years since I last went there.  I'm not really a birder but that doesn't stop me from loving birds and everything linked to nature.

I made a selection of a little over 160 bird photos to make up the portfolio below.

I'll start with the only bird that I couldn't identify, photo taken at Barranco Alto.

I'm the same and I'm looking forward to these photos. I loved our trip to the Pantanal, especially Barranco Alto and have planned to go back in May of 2025. Already made my BA reservations. When I retire in 3 years I think I will be there at least once a year.

I completely understand that you think about going to Barranco Alto at least once a year.  It is a very pleasant place where the balance of nature is respected by the Schweizer family, the owners.

I love Bare-faced curassows (Male & female) ! The feathers on the face look funny. Very interesting bird. The doves are also very unusual.

Thank you for sharing the pictures with us, @Bush dog

Thank you for your comments!

It looks like the male curassow put curlers on its head to make its feathers curl.

Love the name cattle tyrant and love it even more that there is one sitting on a capybara’s head.

Thank you for this retrospective. Your reports turned me on to the Pantanal, and Barranco Alto in particular, and I am much the better for it.

Enjoying this a lot @Bush dog, especially nice to see the birds grouped together so the variations can be easily seen.

The ibis grouping is especially nice. This is making it hard for me to wait until 2025 for my return. I have already made my reservations. Thanks for posting these.
