First-time birding trip to Northern Thailand - Jan/Feb 2024

Really enjoyed reading your trip report, Peter. Obviously January is a better time to visit Thailand, no smoke in the air. And next time we will also stay longer at each location, like you wisely did. The m3/4 sensor did a great job, but obviously it was in the hands of an experienced photographer.

this got buried so far down that I almost missed finishing it up. Thanks for sharing all your lovely shots of the birds, and recommendations of places to stay. Herman and I have never thought of self-driving before in Thailand but you and @xelas have proven one can do it. we usually prefer to be driven so that we can relax and enjoy the views or take a snooze. Doi INthanon is always busy but the walk into the forest was really nice.

Bt6000 for 2 of you for half a day seems reasonable. As a comparison, my trip to Thailand in March cost about Bt9500 a day but this included all meals, accommodation, guide and transport.
